The Top 14 “American Idol” contestants didn’t have to wait long to learn the results of Sunday’s episode.

As opposed to past weeks — when “Idol” voting opened after an episode and closed the following morning — the evening’s episode limited voting to the duration of the show. Viewers voted live as the remaining 14 contestants participated in a special Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed round of the competition, performing songs from past inductees like Aretha Franklin and The Beatles.

After tallying over 19 million votes, the end of the program revealed that Amanda Barise and Desmond Roberts would not advance to the Top 12. Roberts performed the Commodores song “Jesus Is Love,” while Barise selected the Michael Jackson deep cut “I Can’t Help It.”

Contestants in the Top 12 include Thunderstorm Artis, Kolbi Jordan, Filo, Gabby Samone, Josh King, Slater Nalley, Canaan James Hill, John Foster, Mattie Pruitt, Jamal Roberts, Ché Chesterman and Breanna Nix.

Throughout the episode, the Top 14 received guidance from Boston-born superstar (and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee) James Taylor, who served as a guest mentor. The remaining 12 contestants will compete again tomorrow, this time with assistance from guest mentor and Season 3 “Idol” winner Fantasia.

American Idol turned up the volume and the excitement this week with a special Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed night — and by the end of the evening, the Top 12 contestants were officially revealed.

The episode featured the remaining hopefuls taking on legendary songs from some of the biggest names ever inducted into the Hall of Fame. From electrifying guitar solos to powerhouse vocals, the night showcased the incredible range and energy that has defined rock and roll across generations.

Fan favorites and underdogs alike stepped up to the challenge, delivering performances that brought the judges — and the audience — to their feet. Standout moments included a searing rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” a hauntingly beautiful cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” and a bold, edgy version of David Bowie’s “Heroes.”

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Jelly Roll praised the contestants for their passion and fearlessness. Perry told one contestant, “You didn’t just sing rock and roll — you lived it tonight,” while Bryan emphasized how crucial it is to bring authenticity to such iconic material.

At the end of the night, after a flurry of live votes from fans, the Top 12 were revealed. Emotions ran high as some dreams were realized and others were heartbreakingly cut short. The advancing contestants now move one step closer to winning the coveted title of the next American Idol.

With the competition heating up and the talent level higher than ever, it’s clear that the race to the finale will be one of the most exciting in recent memory. If Rock & Roll Hall of Fame night is any indication, fans are in for an unforgettable season.
