Jordyn Williams designed her own prom dress and sewed the bodice by hand for Saturday’s dance. Hours later, she was hit by a car fleeing gunfire at an after-party.

FRUITPORT, Mich. — A girl who was hit by a car while running from a shooting at a post-prom party in Michigan has been identified by her mother.

Tamara Williams told 13 ON YOUR SIDE Monday that her daughter, Jordyn Williams, was injured after being hit by a car Saturday at the party in Fruitport.

Jordyn, a Muskegon High School junior, was attending a prom after-party at the local VFW hall for Post 3734 in Fruitport when shots were fired Saturday evening.

Four people were shot and taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said. In the chaos, two people were hit by vehicles attempting to leave the area, including Jordyn.

Tamara Williams said Monday that her daughter was in the ICU but was considered stable and is scheduled to have several surgeries on her left leg later in the day.

She said Jordyn Williams was born with sickle cell anemia and receives treatment each month at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

She described her daughter as “shy and soft-spoken” with a passion for makeup, braiding and sewing. She said Jordyn designed the prom dress she wore this weekend and sewed the bodice by hand.

Investigators believe there were multiple people firing guns at the party.

Lisa Bosworth, a neighbor who lives near the hall, told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that when the shooting happened, it sounded like there were 30 to 40 gunshots, followed by screaming.

“When I got up to look out the front window I had seen I was still hearing more of the shots, and we had a lot of teens that ran into our yard and that were in our driveway,” Bosworth said. “There was cars parked all the way down to the dead end sign, and they were scrambling and screaming for their lives.”

Law enforcement officials have not confirmed if they have any suspect information or if anyone is in custody.
