Warrants and a family statement identified Nateal Campbell, the mother of former Falcon Calais Campbell, as the victim found dead at a Buckhead home Tuesday.
ATLANTA — Arrest warrants and a family statement have identified the 71-year-old mother of NFL star and former Atlanta Falcon Calais Campbell as the victim in a murder investigation in Buckhead.
The suspect is reportedly Campbell’s brother, identified in the warrants as Ciarre Campbell.
Atlanta Police Department officers responded to a home on Roswell Road on Tuesday and said they discovered a 71-year-old woman deceased inside. Warrants identify her as Nateal Campbell, and the Campbell family said in a statement Tuesday they were devastated by the loss of their matriarch.

“While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We ask for privacy at this time so that we may honor her and share in our overwhelming grief privately and as a family,” the statement said.
Ciarre Campbell, 41, was taken into custody on charges including murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime. Police said Tuesday the investigation involved a mother and son.
Several sources, including the Charles Richard Campbell Foundation, identify Ciarre Campbell as one of the eight Campbell children, Calais’ siblings.
A 911 call, which appears to have been made by one of the other brothers, was released by Atlanta Police.
“My brother, he’s mentally ill, he’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia, some other things, he stays with my mother. And this morning, we were trying to get in her house and can’t get in her house, this morning he drove in her car which is very unusual, he doesn’t drive… I just tried to jump the window and he’s in there. He said she left, but the camera footage my neighbor has shows she never left,” the caller stated.
According to Lt. Christapher Butler, the son was detained Tuesday and taken back to police headquarters to speak with detectives.
The arrest warrants for Ciarre Campbell allege a violent killing. Police have not detailed how they believe it unfolded or what led up to it.
Lt. Butler said that a brief look into the history of the Roswell Road address showed officers had been dispatched to the residence in the past.
“A brief look into the history does show some calls back in April dealing with this location; a possible arson incident,” Lt. Butler stated. “There have been some indications of possibly some mental health issues with the individual. But yeah, the family did indicate that.”
Calais Campbell, an 18-year NFL veteran and six-time Pro Bowler, played for the Falcons in 2023 and is currently with the Baltimore Ravens.
