Married At First Sight Australia’s 2026 season has delivered yet another explosive post-show fallout, this time between David Hewitt and Alissa Frazer. In a new interview with TV Week, David has pointed the finger squarely at Alissa, claiming her friendship with “mean girls” Bec Zacharia and Gia Fleur was the turning point that destroyed their marriage. Meanwhile, Alissa has hit back hard, insisting Channel Nine cut crucial context that would show the real cracks in their relationship.
David told TV Week: “Alissa said herself that with the bullying stuff, she was a shell of herself in the experiment. Then things got better, and she became friends with Bec and the bullies, and they were hanging out together. She came out to a different side of herself, and then things just changed.”
He went further, alleging Alissa’s new social circle influenced her to suddenly doubt their relationship: “I gave 100% to the experiment. There were red flags from the beginning, like the get down on one knee thing, but I decided to push through because I didn’t wanna repeat prejudices I might have on the outside. But I was at my limit.”
The comments paint Alissa as someone who shifted dramatically after aligning with Bec and Gia — two women widely viewed by fans as the season’s antagonists. David suggests the friendship exposed a “different side” of Alissa that ultimately led him to pull away.
Alissa, however, has a very different perspective. In an interview with Chattr, she accused the show of deliberately omitting key moments that would explain why their relationship crumbled: “There is a lot of context missing. We’ve had a few ups and downs at this point in the experiment that haven’t been aired, and we’ve had to work through them. Some of the things were challenging that we had to work through, and the cracks do start to show; every relationship has cracks. It won’t make sense to the viewers because there have been storylines missed, big key elements to our relationship.”
Her statement implies Channel Nine edited out significant conflicts, arguments, or behaviors from David that would have shifted how viewers perceived their dynamic. Alissa has hinted that the “red flags” David mentioned were mutual — and perhaps more severe from his side than the show portrayed.
The back-and-forth has divided the MAFS fanbase. Supporters of David argue Alissa “changed” after aligning with the season’s villains, while Alissa’s defenders accuse the show of protecting David’s image by cutting out his problematic moments. Social media is flooded with side-by-side clips: David’s on-air “supportive” moments versus Alissa’s claims of hidden drama. Hashtags like #DavidVsAlissa, #MAFSEdited, and #FullStoryNotShown are trending.
Channel Nine has not commented on the editing allegations, but the pattern fits a recurring criticism of the show: selective storytelling to maintain drama or protect certain narratives. Previous seasons have faced similar accusations from cast members who felt their stories were distorted for ratings.
The feud comes amid the ongoing 2026 season, where David and Alissa’s pairing was portrayed as a slow-burn romance that ultimately ended amicably on screen. Viewers now question how much of that was manufactured. Alissa’s decision to speak out — especially about “big key elements” left on the cutting room floor — suggests she’s ready to reclaim her narrative.
As the drama plays out off-camera, one thing is clear: what fans saw on TV was only part of the story. The real relationship — its cracks, fights, and turning points — may have been far messier than the edit let on.
For David and Alissa, the experiment may be over, but the fallout is far from finished. The public is now demanding the “full picture” — and it seems neither side is willing to stay quiet any longer.
