Kelly Clarkson is not giving up hope that she’ll have her “unicorn moment,” but it’s not her main focus.
During an appearance on Today with Jenna and Friends, the “Stronger” singer, 43, opened up about whether she believes that she’ll still find romance. The mom of two told host Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Matt Rogers that she hopes she does, but she’s not actively looking at the moment. Clarkson said that her kids’ busy schedules consume her time, as she joked she feels “like it’s busier than mine.”
“I’m running from my show to baseball practice and I’m trying to be just there,” she said. “It’s a lot. My mom will tell me, ‘Look, I was a single mom. I didn’t get to make everything. They’re gonna be fine. You turned out fine.’ “
“I am just trying to be there as much for them [as possible] and we’re a cute little unit,” she continued. “I am trying to adult more. So for Mother’s Day weekend I do have a couple shows, but my kids aren’t coming. So I do get to be an adult with my band having drinks and having adult time.”
The singer shares son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9, and daughter River Rose, 10, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Clarkson talked about the moment River and Remy got to see her perform during her Las Vegas residency after coming up onstage for performances of their own.
“I was like, ‘I feel like how you’re looking at me is how you watch Spider-Man,’ ” she said. “It caught me completely off guard, and it was the most magical moment because they were so happy and at ease. They were just in awe.”

Clarkson’s children are also a staple on her daytime talk show. In fact, she honored her motherhood journey when she celebrated her 1000th episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show in March 2025. A montage of clips from times they appeared on the show over the years played at the end of the episode, making Clarkson emotional.
“River and Remy, I love you so much. I’m so proud of you both,” she said. “They’re just fearless and very bold. They’re more like me as an adult, not what I was like as a child, so they talk a lot too. You are what I’m liking today, my little ones, and every day I love them so much.”
On the Wednesday, April 2 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the “Since U Been Gone” singer’s daughter River, joined the crew, shadowing the showrunner Alex Duda. The preteen acted as a “mini producer” for the day, attending meetings and telling her mom when to go to break.
“My daughter is here today,” she said, as she pointed and looked at River, noticing a new add-on to her attire. “Oh my God! You have a mic and everything! You’re so fancy! Oh my God. I love it. You’re like a little mini producer.”
