JUSTICE HAS FINALLY CAUGHT UP..! – Louisiana rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in a high-profile r-a:pe case that has followed him for years.
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Michael Lawrence Tyler, known by his stage name as Mystikal, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in a rape case.
Tyler, 55, appeared before Judge Steven Tureau on Tuesday at the 23rd Judicial District Court after he pleaded guilty to third-degree rape on Tuesday, March 17. His sentencing includes no chance for parole but credit for time served, and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon release.
The victim said the incident left a negative impact on her mental and physical health in a statement. Tyler, in response, said, “If that’s what I did, I deserve every day of this sentence. I’m sorry. I hope you heal.”

Tyler, a New Orleans native, was arrested and charged after detectives interviewed a sexual assault victim who was injured in an attack in Ascension Parish in 2022. At the time, he was charged with first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery, strangulation (felony), simple robbery, simple criminal damage to property – $1,000 (misdemeanor), and false imprisonment.
He previously served time in prison in 2003 on a sexual battery charge. In 2016, he was charged in a rape case, but it was dropped.
