“It Got Dangerous”: Eric Bana Tells All About Untamed’s Brutal Finale — and the One Scene That Still Haunts Him!

In an exclusive and emotionally charged interview, Untamed star Eric Bana has finally broken his silence about the grueling production of the series’ jaw-dropping Season 1 finale — and the shocking behind-the-scenes turmoil that left a lasting mark on the cast and crew.

The Australian actor, who plays wilderness survivalist and morally ambiguous protagonist Jack Keating, didn’t hold back as he described what really went down in the desolate and unforgiving terrain where the finale was filmed — a remote part of northern British Columbia, days away from any civilization.

“People always talk about how raw and real Untamed felt — well, that’s because it was real,” Bana said. “That last episode, what you saw on screen? That was nothing compared to what we actually went through behind the cameras.”

“A Dangerous Place — On Every Level”

The production team chose an untamed stretch of land deep within the Canadian wilderness to maintain the show’s gritty, immersive tone. But the decision came with dangerous consequences.

“We didn’t have cell service. Supplies had to be airlifted in. We had unpredictable wildlife — bears, wolves, even a cougar sighting. The conditions were brutal. People got injured. Morale slipped,” Bana revealed. “It wasn’t just acting anymore. It was survival.”

Bana recalls a particularly harrowing incident during a nighttime shoot when a generator failed and the crew was left in total darkness for nearly three hours — with temperatures plummeting below freezing. “That was the moment it hit me,” he said. “This was no longer just a television set. This was something else entirely.”

Behind-the-Scenes Tension: “Not All of Us Came Out the Same”

While the show’s central storyline — a fractured group of survivalists uncovering a conspiracy buried in the forest — kept fans hooked with its dark turns and psychological unraveling, Bana revealed that the real tension ran much deeper behind the scenes.

“There was a kind of madness out there,” he said, pausing. “People’s tempers frayed. Relationships were pushed to the brink. Some friendships didn’t survive. Some people didn’t come back the same.”

Though he declined to name names, Bana admitted that a key member of the cast left production early and has since distanced themselves from the project. “It was intense, emotionally and physically. We were stripped down to the core. Some of us found something powerful in that. Others… just couldn’t take it.”

The One Regret

Despite the show’s critical success — it boasts a rare 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and has already been renewed for a second season — Bana says he’s haunted by a single regret from filming the finale.

“There’s a scene near the end where Jack has to leave someone behind. It’s raw, it’s devastating. And I knew we’d get one take at it because of the conditions,” he recalled. “I went too far. I crossed a line emotionally, and I saw it affect the other actor. I regret that.”

When pressed for details, Bana declined to elaborate, only saying that he has since reached out to the actor involved. “They forgave me. But I still think about it. There’s a line between method and madness — and I blurred it that day.”

Fans React — and Demand Answers

As the interview circulates online, fans have been dissecting every word for clues about what really happened during filming. On Reddit and TikTok, theories are swirling: Did someone quit mid-scene? Was there an actual accident that production covered up? Did the infamous “river scene” in Episode 8 mirror a real-life emergency?

So far, producers have remained tight-lipped, issuing only a short statement: “Untamed pushed boundaries — creatively and physically. We’re proud of what the team accomplished.”

What Comes Next?

With Season 2 set to begin filming in Iceland this fall, Bana admits he’s both eager and apprehensive to return.

“I’m proud of Untamed. I think we made something meaningful. But I also know I can’t go through something like that again unless we’re smarter this time,” he said. “There’s a way to push limits — but you can’t break people.”

As for whether he’d do it all over again?

Eric Bana paused. “Yes. But not the same way.”

And perhaps that’s the ultimate twist behind Untamed — the greatest transformation didn’t happen to the characters in the wilderness, but to the actors who brought them to life.
