Inside Carrie Underwood’s Country Paradise: From Grammy Awards to Gardening Glory

Carrie Underwood has long been known for her powerhouse vocals and chart-topping hits, but away from the spotlight, she’s cultivated a quieter passion—literally. Raised on a cattle farm in Oklahoma, Underwood has embraced a deep-rooted connection to the land, creating a life centered on family, faith, and sustainable living.

Their vacation included some stunning views.

From Farm Roots to Greenhouse Goals

In recent years, Underwood’s love for gardening has blossomed. She often refers to her garden as one of her “happy places”—a space for quiet reflection and connection with nature. Embracing a fully organic lifestyle, she expanded her efforts by adding a custom-built greenhouse in 2023, designed by California-based Epic Gardening. The structure includes L-shaped, round, and rectangular beds, a potting bench surrounded by citrus trees, seeding tables, herb beds, and outdoor raised beds—each thoughtfully curated to maximize productivity and variety.

Her greenhouse is just one part of a growing homestead. Underwood has become adept at growing a wide range of produce—from 25 unique tomato varieties to squash, beans, onions, and an abundance of peppers. Fruit trees like apples and peaches, along with berry shrubs, fill the landscape, providing seasonal ingredients for the family’s meals.

“My goal is to not buy food from the store anymore,” she shared during a 2023 episode of The Dr. Axe Show, a testament to her dedication to self-reliance. She even uses fish water as fertilizer, composts kitchen scraps, and feeds leftovers to her chickens—ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Building a Family Retreat in the Heart of Tennessee

Following her 2010 Southern-style wedding to former NHL player Mike Fisher, the couple envisioned a quieter life away from the public eye. In 2011, they purchased 400 acres of rolling hills in Franklin, Tennessee for $3 million and began designing their forever home. Their estate, completed in 2018, includes horse stables, an orchard, a private lake, and expansive gardens. During a 2012 appearance on Oprah’s Next Chapter, the couple offered a glimpse of the then-barren land, with Fisher pointing out scenic ridges and future plans for picnics and tree plantings.

Today, their property is a sanctuary not only for their family but for their animals. Five horses reside in a custom barn, and the land is also home to chickens, two cows named Brownie and Oreo—Christmas gifts from Fisher in 2020—and even honeybees. Underwood hinted that donkeys may be next.

A House Made for Living

The couple’s home was carefully tailored to meet their personal vision. Underwood once described her essentials for the build: “a wood-burning fireplace, a porch swing, and rocking chairs.” The final result includes a spacious master suite with a luxurious walk-in closet, multiple garages, a full basement, and numerous bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate their growing family.

Their previous home in Brentwood was sold for $1.45 million after Underwood suffered a serious fall there, requiring over 40 stitches to her face. That incident, along with increasing concerns over security and community privacy, accelerated their decision to move.

Faith Through the Trials

The journey hasn’t been without heartache. After welcoming their first son, Isaiah, in 2015, Underwood faced multiple miscarriages. During a moment of deep emotional despair, she turned to prayer, asking for clarity and strength. When doctors confirmed her fourth pregnancy was healthy, she felt it was a divine answer. Their second son, Jacob, was born in 2019, completing their family of four.

Through it all, Underwood and Fisher have remained grounded in faith. Their life on the homestead is more than a return to nature—it’s an intentional pursuit of peace, purpose, and togetherness. Whether harvesting black-eyed peas, feeding the chickens, or raising their boys amid the beauty of Tennessee’s countryside, they’ve built a legacy rooted in resilience and simplicity.
