A man has died and another was seriously injured in a shocking three-vehicle crash that also killed dozens of cows in NSW‘s northwest.
Two B-double trucks, one carrying a load of cattle, and a ute crashed about 10.15am on Wednesday at Thunderbolts Way, Walcha, about 90km east of Tamworth.
Despite attempts by first responders, the 22-year-old male cattle truck driver could not be saved.
Police said about 35 cattle also died in the crash, with some being euthanised due to their injuries.
The other truck driver, a 53-year-old man, suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Investigations are ongoing, police said.

“As inquiries continue, police are asking anyone with information about the matter, or any relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact Tamworth Police Station or Crime Stoppers,” police said.
The crash caused significant traffic delays, with the road still closed in both directions as of Thursday morning.
Traffic is being diverted northbound from Topdale Rd to join the New England Hwy via Tamworth.
NSW Traffic said the diversion was suitable for light vehicles only, with heavy vehicles being parked.
Southbound traffic is being diverted via the New England Hwy as an alternative route.
Tamworth Regional Council told residents to “please take appropriate alternate routes if you’re travelling for the Easter long weekend”.
