Police were first alerted after an Isuzu SUV was found along the Limestone Coast with the engine still running about 11.15am.

Despite a multi-agency search — involving police, CFS and SES — scoured the coast for the infant child, they are yet to be located.

Those search efforts have been renewed on Tuesday morning, with police calling on the public for help.

Anyone with information regarding a white 2015 Isuzu MUX with SA Registration S592BJR has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

A tow truck was seen transporting a vehicle of a similar description away from the scene.

Superintendent Trent Cox said the person who issued the first report also spotted “what he believed to be the body of an adult floating in the water”.

“Shortly after, he noticed a second body which looked to be that of a small child,” Cox told media.

Cox said search teams hold “grave concerns” for the young child’s welfare.

“The child is less than one year old, in any conditions that would cause great concern about the child’s ability to survive, if not [just] in the water,” he said.

“We are keeping an open mind, but I don’t hold great hope.”

Detectives from Major Crime Investigation Branch and specialist forensic officers have travelled to the scene as the investigation intensifies.
