Woman in her 30s found dead at home in Quakers Hill on Sunday morning while man in his 30s died in hospital

A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his former partner and another man to death in Sydney.

Police said emergency services were called to the home in Quakers Hill just before 5am on Sunday, responding to reports of a disturbance.

“When police arrived at that location, they discovered a male in his 30s suffering from stab wounds on the front footpath,” Supt Jason Joyce from the Riverstone police area command said.

“They then entered a house in Illabo Street, where they discovered a female deceased in the kitchen, suffering from stab wounds. The male was transported to Liverpool hospital, where, unfortunately, he died despite the efforts of the medical staff.”

About 30 minutes after emergency services responded, police arrested a 47-year-old man after he went to Blacktown police station.

“A 47-year-old male attended Blacktown police station and was arrested as a result of that [and] a knife was located at a service station in Woodcroft,” Joyce said.

He said the male in custody was previously in a relationship with the woman, who is thought to have been in a new relationship with the deceased man.

“We believe that the deceased female and deceased male were in a relationship. I’m not sure what type of relationship or the duration in that relationship,” Joyce said.

He said the male in custody was known to police.

“Police are establishing a number of crime scenes and making inquiries in relation to this matter. It was obviously a very traumatic incident that both my police and ambulance officers faced at that location.”

He urged anyone with CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

The police investigation is ongoing.

The Quakers Hill community remains in shock following a brutal double stabbing on December 28 that left a 38-year-old woman dead at the scene and her 30-year-old partner dying later in hospital. A 47-year-old man, believed to be the woman’s former partner, has been charged with two counts of murder, exposing a deeply disturbing relationship hidden behind a facade of normalcy.

Police described the victims’ household as appearing a “normal, happy family” on the surface, with neighbours recalling the accused as “a nice decent man” who had no prior visible signs of trouble. Yet, in a somber briefing, investigators revealed chilling details of control, fear, and escalating tension in the ex-partnership, painting a far darker picture than anyone imagined.

Emergency services rushed to Illabo Street just before 5am after reports of a disturbance. Officers found Anaseini Waqavuki deceased in the kitchen from multiple stab wounds. Her current partner was discovered critically injured on the footpath outside, succumbing to wounds despite treatment. The accused allegedly fled, discarded the knife at a nearby petrol station, and handed himself in to police shortly after.

Detectives believe the incident stemmed from domestic violence in the prior relationship, with the sudden eruption leaving even seasoned officers shaken. “What unfolded behind closed doors was far more disturbing than the outward appearance suggested,” a spokesperson said.

The tragedy highlights the hidden nature of domestic abuse, where victims often suffer in silence. Support services urge anyone experiencing fear or control to seek help.

As the community grieves, this case underscores the devastating consequences when warning signs go unnoticed.
