The Philadelphia Eagles outplayed the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Still, Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni shouldn’t underestimate Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes in the 2025 NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles shocked the NFL world with a commanding win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. While many knew that Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts were capable of getting the job done, the way they dominated Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes‘ team was still surprising.

However, the Eagles shouldn’t underestimate the Chiefs next year. Former NFL wide receiver Steve Sanders, in fact, believes that there could be a Super Bowl rematch between these teams in the near future.

“They’re going to be tough to beat in the future, so we’ll see how things go. But I don’t doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs will come back reloaded and ready to go,” Sanders told Ed Easton Jr. of Chiefs Wire.

“You can never count Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid out because that dynamic and play calling behind it is phenomenal. They’ll be right there in the thick of it, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a repeat of last year’s Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles again this year.”

The Chiefs and Eagles faced each other in two of the last three Super Bowls. Only three points gave Reid and Mahomes the upper hand in 2023, but Sirianni and Hurts redeemed themselves with a 40-22 victory in February. Is a third game for the championship on the horizon?

But while Sanders warns Sirianni and company not to overlook the Chiefs, the former Cleveland Browns wideout believes that Hurts‘ Eagles have clearly become the team to beat in the NFL, a status previously held by Reid and Mahomes’ team.

“I think the NFL has been put on alert to watch out for the next few years,” said Sanders. “If they can keep that core team together, they’re going to be tough to beat, especially now, having the experience of winning the Super Bowl and having your franchise quarterback, [and] Saquon Barkley, just got a new contract. You have some good weapons on the outside, and they have an offensive line that can protect their quarterback.”

Reid, Chiefs moving on from Super Bowl LIX loss

Many believed the Eagles would beat the Chiefs in New Orleans, so their title wasn’t exactly a shock. What took many by surprise was the difference in the score, as Reid and Mahomes were expected to put up a bigger fight in their quest for a three-peat.

Kansas City has already turned the page though. With free agency well underway and the 2025 NFL Draft right around the corner, the Chiefs are spending their energy on coming back stronger.

“It was a bad day to have a bad day — for sure,” Reid said at the NFL Scouting Combine a few days after Super Bowl LIX. “Like all games, you can learn some things from it. It hurts for a few days and then you move on quickly. You get about three days into it [where] you mope around a little bit — and then, all of a sudden, you’re onto free agency and you’re doing your thing.”
