The NFL’s funniest pair of brothers, Jason Kelce of the former Philadelphia Eagles and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, are back in the spotlight after revealing a childhood secret.
In the success that turned out to be their podcast “New Heights”, several personalities have passed through their microphones, but none has been more important to them than having the presence of their mother, Donna Kelce. And not just in their podcast, but in her life.

In a fun and heartwarming Mother’s Day episode, Jason and Travis Kelce were chatting about their childhood, their sibling relationship and their upbringing. Like good brothers, Trav and Jason didn’t escape fighting daily until they grew to strengthen their bond and become as inseparable as they are today.

In the chat, Donna said that although taking care of them growing up has been “the most overwhelming task” she has ever taken on, it never limited them. Even with a full-time job at a bank and two young children who “never stopped moving,” she made sure they both grew up together.
However, their parents’ efforts to bring them together, both Donna’s and Ed Kelce’s, left an anecdote of how it made Travis feel:
I think that’s what you and Dad did a great job of is that you forced Jason to be my friend, and by doing this, Jason would then just torture me.
“You would find fun ways to say we’re playing together. But in reality, like playing together with Jason was, ‘Hey, Travis, you want to go be the goalie outside so I could just rip slap shots at you in the driveway?’ like, ‘Yeah, of course I want to play with you’,” he recalled.
These experiences and memories filled with camaraderie, mischief and childhood rivalry only brought them together and forged them into a relationship that goes beyond their rivalry on the field, an invaluable bond for the rest of their lives and one that with time and maturity mutated. And of course, behind it comes the commitment and love of their mother who helped them both turn the chaos into discipline and focus that Travis and Jason demonstrate in their sports careers.
Donna’s secret to raising them
Parenting often didn’t come easy, but Donna said there is no magic formula that made the two grow so close: “I don’t think you cultivate anything. I think the family dynamic is the family dynamic. I didn’t try to force anything,” she said.
“All we gave you was opportunity. You guys ran with it. We followed what you wanted, what you thought was good. Unless it was against the law, we let you do pretty much whatever you thought would be fun,” she told her kids.
