The Las Vegas Raiders are continuing their defensive overhaul this offseason, and the latest change looks like it involves one of their 2024 starters.

Cornerback Jack Jones, who started 16 games for the team last season, is reportedly on the trading block-and if no deal materializes, the team plans to release him early next week.

Jones, a former fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2022, joined the Raiders midway through the 2023 season after his release from New England.

Despite past off-field concerns, he quickly carved out a starting role in Las Vegas, playing in all 17 games in 2024. His departure would mark yet another shift in what’s becoming a completely retooled secondary.

Defensive depth taking a hit as secondary sees major turnover

According to NFL insider Vincent Bonsignore, the Raiders are currently seeking trade partners for Jones but are prepared to cut him loose if they can’t find a taker by Monday. The decision comes as something of a surprise considering the team has already lost several defensive backs in free agency.

Starting cornerback Nate Hobbs left to join the Green Bay Packers, while safety Tre’von Moehrig signed with the Carolina Panthers. With Jones on his way out as well, only Isaiah Pola-Mao remains from the Raiders’ starting secondary last season.

Las Vegas did take steps to replenish their defensive backfield, including signing Jeremy Chinn to help fill the void at safety. However, the cornerback unit now looks thin, led by younger, less proven players like Decamerion Richardson, Eric Stokes, and Jakorian Bennett.

If the Raiders are unable to move Jones via trade, he will become a free agent and likely attract interest from teams looking for a starting-caliber corner with solid experience and ball skills.

For Las Vegas, the move highlights a deeper shift under head coach Antonio Pierce, who appears committed to reshaping the roster with a long-term vision-even if it means parting ways with productive starters
