Janitor Richard Goodall hadn’t ever been on an airplane before appearing on America’s Got Talent. He decided to leave Indiana behind to give himself a chance at living his dreams. Fans were quick to decipher Richard as a “humble” guy, and it seems the world has fallen in love with him instantly.

Stepping onto the stage with a “big dream,” America’s Got Talent star Richard performed a song that “speaks for itself.” He said the moment was a “long time coming,” and was visibly nervous as he stood before the judges. Simon Cowell said: “…shake off those nerves, we’re here, we’re rooting for your Richard.”

Richard Goodall hails from Indiana

Richard Goodall is 55 years old and says he’s spent his whole life in same town he was born.

The America’s Got Talent star hails from Terre Haute, Indiana.

He works as a janitor at Chauncey Rose Middle School. He said: “I’m not a fancy person,” adding how he just wipes floors, and takes out the trash.

Richard decided to leave “stability” behind to experience AGT and had goosebumps before his audition.

He said: “I was that kid up in my bedroom with the radio shack stereo. My favorite thing was just to sit up and listen to my music. I would just belt it out.”

Richard is a ‘sweet soul’

Richard has been on stage just one time this May, but fans are already “rooting” for the 55-year-old.

Some describe him as a “sweet soul” on YouTube, and more love the fact he’s so “humble.”

Many people commented how they were “in tears” over Richard’s voice. Some already “hope” the singer will win the show and more said he has a “gift.”

The janitor has a fiancé, Angie, who he said he’d be calling “immediately” after his performance.

She told him: “I knew it. I told you” when he said he’d done well on the show.

Giving feedback, Simon said: “Richard, you are my hero because that was special.”

Heidi Klum said: “Richard, Richard, Richard, you knocked me off my feet….” before giving her Golden Buzzer to the singer.

‘Is that Steve Perry?’

Richard performed the very apt Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey during America’s Got Talent.

Performing the world-renowned hit, Richard had tons of viewers in shock at how much he sounded like the song’s original singer.

Journey’s Steve Perry is known to sing the song.

Fans took to the comments to say: “I thought it was actually Steve Perry singing.”

More commented if they were “blindfolded,” they’d be convinced it was the Journey frontman’s voice.

Others said how Richard’s audition was a lesson not to “underestimate the hidden talent within an ordinary-looking person.”
