Virgin River fans are airing their frustrations, with many fuming there are “too many unplanned pregnancies” in the show.
With viewers going back to watch the show ahead of the next season, some people have admitted they’ve grown tired of watching the same storylines. Season 4 saw Mel unexpectedly find out she was pregnant before she sadly suffered a miscarriage in season 5.
Charmaine was another pregnant character, with many fans complaining about how long her pregnancy seemed to go on for. Now, one disgruntled viewer took to Reddit to fume about all the babies. In a post titled, “Does No One in VR Use Birth Control,” the Reddit user said, “Pretty much the title says it all!”

In response, one fan remarked, “Robyn Carr’s books focus heavily on topics like pregnancy, miscarriage, adoption, and unplanned pregnancies—she covers everything.”
Another fan pointed out, “Wasn’t there a plot in an early season where Lizzie got birth control from Mel, but then ended up pregnant anyway? LOL.”
Someone else vented, “Just like soap operas,” while a fourth joked, “Small towns… not much else to do…”
Another suggested, “They live pretty much in the wilderness, so maybe they don’t have proper access. I mean, Doc is the one who would prescribe it, and who wants him knowing you’re sleeping around?”
The backlash comes as Netflix prepares for the release of Virgin River season 7. The streaming giant recently announced that Sara Canning and Cody Kearsley will be joining the cast for the new season.
Returning to the show are Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, and Annette O’Toole. Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure will also be back.
However, some cast members will be leaving. Mark Ghanime, who plays Cameron, will no longer be a series regular. Patrick Sean Smith told TV Line, “Mark will always be part of the world. I would love to see his character return, but unfortunately, he won’t be a regular in season 7.”
