Lil Wayne To Celebrate 'Tha Carter VI' At First Headlining Show At MSG | iHeart

The iconic artist has been making music for 30 years, elevating to superstar status with Tha Carter III, but has never headlined at Madison Square Garden. In March 2010, he made a surprise appearance at a Jay-Z and Jeezy concert, performing just a day before he turned himself in to Rikers Island to do an eight-month sentence for gun possession.

The charge, stemming from a gun being found on his tour bus in 2007, had previously sullied his perception of New York. In 2011, he told Rolling Stone, “They’d have to give me U2 money” for him to consider returning to New York. He also told MTV News in 2011, “Flat out, I don’t like New York.” But he’s been back multiple times since then, most recently to perform at the SNL 50 spectacular (and conclude a lengthy interview process for his May cover story).

Lil Wayne to Mark 'Tha Carter VI' Release With First MSG Headline Show

Tha Carter VI will be a guest-heavy affair. Wayne has said that Miley Cyrus, Bono, MGK, Elephant Man, Wayne’s Young Money artist Euro, and Wyclef Jean will be on the album, as well as famed tenor Andrea Bocelli. Our listen to the album revealed that “Tha Carter VI is a testament to Wayne’s malleable mic presence. He rhymes over different tempos and sonic moods, but sounds like himself on every song.”
