LONDON — In one of the most emotional moments on daytime television this year, Loose Women star Coleen Nolan made her brave return to the ITV panel show on Thursday — just weeks after the heartbreaking funeral of her sister, singer and entertainer Linda Nolan.
Visibly emotional but composed, the 59-year-old presenter walked onto set to a standing ovation from the live studio audience and was immediately embraced by fellow panellists Ruth Langsford, Brenda Edwards, and Denise Welch.
“I didn’t know if I could come back,” Coleen admitted, her voice shaking. “But Linda would have told me to get up, slap on a bit of makeup, and show up.”
A Nation’s Grief, A Sister’s Courage
Linda Nolan, a member of the legendary Nolan Sisters, passed away in April following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her passing marked the end of an era — and the loss of a sisterhood that captured hearts across Britain for decades.
Coleen, who has always been open with viewers about her family’s health battles, had stepped away from Loose Women for nearly two months to grieve privately and support her family through Linda’s funeral.
Her return on Thursday’s live broadcast was filled with tears, laughter, and deep reflection.
“Part of Me Went With Her”
As the segment began, the panel took a break from typical hot topics to give Coleen space to speak from the heart.
“Linda wasn’t just my sister,” she said, wiping away tears. “She was my mirror, my partner in crime, and my safe place. Losing her… it’s like losing part of who I am.”
The room was silent as she spoke, and even seasoned co-host Ruth Langsford looked visibly moved.
“You don’t need to be strong today, Coleen,” Ruth said gently. “We’ve got you.”
A Touching Tribute
ITV aired a short tribute to Linda during the episode, showing clips from her Loose Women appearances, old Nolan Sisters performances, and behind-the-scenes memories.
As the video ended, Coleen placed her hand over her heart and whispered, “She’d love this.”
Brenda Edwards, herself no stranger to grief after the loss of her son Jamal, leaned in and offered words of empathy:
“Grief isn’t linear. You don’t move on — you move with it.”
A Private Funeral, A Public Return
Linda’s funeral was held in Blackpool, the family’s hometown, and attended by close family and friends, with limited press presence in line with her wishes. It was a quiet, elegant service filled with music, laughter, and tears.
“We played ‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing’ at the end,” Coleen shared. “She would’ve hated a somber goodbye.”
Viewers React With Tears and Support
The emotional episode quickly went viral online. Clips of Coleen’s heartfelt return and Linda’s tribute were shared widely on social media, sparking an outpouring of love.
Hashtags like #WelcomeBackColeen, #NolanStrong, and #RIPLinda trended in the UK by Thursday evening.
“Coleen Nolan just showed us what real strength looks like,” one viewer tweeted.
“Cried my eyes out watching Loose Women today. Linda would be so proud,” said another.
What’s Next for Coleen Nolan?
Though Coleen didn’t confirm whether she’ll return full-time to the panel, she did say she plans to stay close to the show and to her fans.
“This table feels like home. I’m not ready every day — but I’m here.”
She also hinted at working with grief charities and teased a memoir project focused on family, loss, and “finding the light after the storm.”
A Sisterhood That Endures
The Nolan sisters — Anne, Denise, Bernie, Maureen, Linda, and Coleen — have inspired the nation with their voices, strength, and unity. Though three now remain, their bond, as Coleen reminded viewers, is eternal.
“We’ve always said: Nolan girls are tough. But we cry hard, too. And today was one of those days.”
