Caution: Season 1 spoilers ahead!

After the finale of Ransom Canyon on Netflix left us with about a dozen unanswered questions, you probably have found yourself itching to know what’s in store for your favorite characters. While the show hasn’t yet been renewed for a second season, Ransom Canyon creator, writer and showrunner April Blair confirmed that she’s already in the writer’s room cooking up some magic for a second installment—and we can hardly contain our excitement! In an exclusive interview with Woman’s World, the mastermind behind the series pulled the curtain back on what’s to come in Season 2, how our favorite characters’ stories might proceed and more!

April Blair

April Blair on Yancy Grey’s cliffhanger

Hunky charmer Yancy Grey had all the makings for a happy ending as Season 1 concluded. The mysterious cowboy who showed up one day to work on Cap Fuller’s ranch evolved from bad boy you should steer clear of to an honorable man that even found love along the way—but as it seems to be the case in Ransom, just when the dust starts to settle, in comes another tornado to shake things up. With a peaceful, harmonious life within such close reach for Yancy, what made Blair want to derail his journey? For the drama, of course!

“He arrived in Ransom with ill intent, and angry—He felt like Cap had denied him a family and a home. He arrives with this idea of revenge and through the course of the season, finds that sort of family and home that he’s been looking for,” she explained. “I think we just wanted to have it not be quite so linear in terms of his journey from bad to good. There are still things from his past that are unresolved so that he has some more fun complications in Season 2, and twists and turns.”

Ellie’s girl boss era: why Season 2 is all about her

While the arrival of Yancy’s wife at the end of Season 1 is sure to complicate the brooding cowboy’s life, it was Ellie who had to confront the reality head on—and between Yancy not being the man she thought she knew and the recent loss of Cap, this tough-as-nails Ransom resident has been put through the wringer. However, Blair was able to confirm that, come Season 2, her journey will take her in a different direction, being a little less “man-centric.”

Marianly Tejada as Ellie, Ransom Canyon, 2025

“At the very end of Season 1, she finally gets this wish with Quinn to become a partner and come on to Gracie’s and have more agency in her own life, and I think this twist with Yancy at the end, when we catch up with her again, Ellie is becoming a little more of her own person. She’s a little less drawn to the bad boy and standing her ground a little more,” says Blair. “We always say the men of Ransom Canyon are like ‘choose your own adventure.’ Staten’s the emotionally shut-down guy that you think you can save, Yancy is the bad boy that you should avoid but you can’t help yourself and Lucas is the perfect high school boyfriend that we all deserved but probably didn’t get. So for Ellie, her Season 1 thing is she continually chooses men that are a little dark,” she explained, “and so in Season 2, it’s about her kind of demanding something more, what she deserves.” Now that we can’t wait to see!

Kit, Lucas and Lauren: What’s next?

The ways in which these three characters were intertwined became more and more complicated as the season went on. While at first it was merely Lucas and Lauren who seemed to share a connection, we eventually discover that Lauren’s mom, Margaret, was romantically involved with Lucas’s brother, Kit. To complicate matters even further, viewers find out that it was Margaret who killed Staten’s son Randall with Kit taking the fall for her. The cherry on top? The season ends with Lauren’s dad, Sheriff Dan, arresting his wife and Lauren’s mom for the death of Randall. Have a headache yet?

For Blair, these intricacies are all things she’s taking into account in the potential second season. “This idea of these two brothers, who now, you know—Kit works on Davis’s ranch, we established that in Season 1. Lucas took this job with Staten, and so now in Season 2, it’s really like a trailer divided. They come back together at the end of Season 1, and Kit’s free, but now, how does that affect their relationship as brothers in their own family moving forward now that they’re caught on these two different spectrums of this battle over the heart of Ransom?”

Casey W. Johnson, Ransom Canyon, 2025

She continues, “They’ll be at odds over that, but also, Lauren and Kit, we saw in Season 1, they make this connection in the tornado episode, and how does that friendship evolve and affect her relationship with Lucas? Lots of complications and twists and turns. How does the situation with her mother and her mother being arrested—How does that affect her? The person that has the most answers for her about what went down is Kit, so that friendship they form in Season 2—What are the complications of that as well?”

Staten and Quinn’s future: will they reconnect?

Staten and Quinn’s will-they-won’t-they relationship kept viewers on the edge of their seats for the duration of the season, and right when things looked to be headed toward harmony, it all came crashing down when she revealed she’d been offered an opportunity to perform with the New York Philharmonic for six months. “Staten is someone who has a good heart, and clearly has love for Quinn, but he has a real difficult time expressing his emotions. And I do think his knee-jerk reaction feels negative, but at the same time, I understand the heart of that. This is someone who has lost everyone he loves. That’s their big obstacle in Season 1 is that loss makes it really hard for him to open up his heart to Quinn, and then when he finally does, to learn that she may be also walking away, he doesn’t have the best reaction—but you kind of understand it a little. He’s afraid of losing her, too.” Blair continued, “That’s his Achilles heel. I think that in a potential Season 2, that is the thing he has to overcome.”
